How different browsers interpret HTML font sizes

I just posted an IM client and web browser font size table, listing the actual point sizes used in 6 browsers and 4 IM clients. There's a lot of variation - in fact, no two browsers or IM clients use the same actual font sizes for all 8 HTML font sizes (0-8). Trillian Pro's font size support is particularly bad.

I made this table while testing to see how AIM for Windows interprets font sizes, so I can emulate it in Joust Secure IM Lite. However, I thought I'd see what other clients did. I think iChat has the best font size policy of the chat clients, but I'm going to emulate AIM for Windows since that's what everyone uses, and it's kind of the "reference implementation," as my friend Sam said.

Joust Secure IM Lite (or joustsim, as I call it) should be usable by next week (I've said that a few times, but I think I'm serious this time :). The basics of the IM window are almost done, and I need to make a buddy list and add a few little things and I can release version 0.1.

...except HTML font sizes are worthlesssince CSS should be used anyway.

AIM doesn't support CSS. The FONT SIZE tag is the only way to set the size of text over AIM.
